~February Monthly Meeting: RSVP is out and will be open until Sunday at 11:55 pm! The meeting will be on Wednesday the 22nd and will feature a presentation by Jennifer DeBoer on the diversity of women in engineering. Come join us for a great evening with fellow women engineers!
~WIE CoNEXTions Launch Party--TOMORROW, Thursday the 16th, from 5-6:30 in the ARMS atrium. Come meet future mentors, current peers, and alumni of all kinds at this drop-in networking event! Attire is business casual.

Take Note Tuesday

Hello ladies! Today will be my first post in the "Take Note Tuesdays" section of the blog! What this means basically is that Tuesdays will be the day that our program activities updates will be posted on the blog--so things you should "take note" of in regards to the program. We have a LOT of stuff coming up the next two weeks--September is a busy time for our program!

THIS WEEK:

~August Mentor Training Night--if you have RSVP'ed for this, be sure to attend TOMORROW, August 31st, in Amelia's from 5:30-7

NEXT WEEK: 

~MANDATORY September Meeting--you should have RSVP'ed for EITHER Wednesday's meeting or Thursday's. You are only required to attend ONE of the 2 meetings. Next Step Coaches Social

Hello ladies! What a beautiful Monday it is today! I hope you're all having a good dead week so far and getting prepped for finals. The last WIEP event for the year is coming up THIS WEDNESDAY! It is the Next Step Coaches Social, where all members can bring a friend and come network with several Purdue alumni to get tips and tricks for summer internships or jobs, or even just some advice for your future! There will be a dinner provided by Moe's Southwest Grill. The Social will be taking place in the Lawson Computer Science building's common area. We hope you all come join us for this wonderful opportunity to network with alum and other womengineers! If not, GOOD LUCK on your finals and have a wonderful summer!

Weekly Update

It's cloudy, it's Monday, and chances are you have at least one test this week. However, don't be discouraged! Less than one week until Spring Break! I hope you're all looking forward to your week off, but until then here are some WIEP updates!

-TONIGHT: March Social for both programs featuring mentoring, from 6:30-8:00 pm in ME 2180. There will be cookie decorating and lots of fun activities to get everyone in the Spring Break spirit

**Special Note: The March Meeting RSVP has been extended to this Thursday at 6 pm! This meeting is in honor of Women's History Month and celebrates our identity as women in the workplace. Don't miss this chance to hear a wonderful speaker and enjoy our dessert bar after the presentation! It is also a joint meeting with our pair and graduate mentoring programs, as well as having faculty in attendance! It will be a great opportunity to meet some new people and make new connections--don't miss out!

THURSDAY: Access Alum with Accenture's Paige Johnson from 10:00 -11:30 in the ARMS Nook
     Come dressed as you are and drop in to meet her and have a great conversation with a wonderful alumni!

A Diwali Celebration!

ME2180 - enter through the Gatewood wing and go directly up the stairs

We would love to see you all at the first Social of the year! We will be learning all about the Indian Festival Diwali. Feel free to come and go as you please for any amount of time. Learn to make your own "Diwali Rangoli" designs on paper plates with colored salt. Rangoli are Indian art designs and are traditionally made during Diwali, the festival of lights!

Light and traditional Indian snacks will be served. Please email us with any  questions. We hope to see you all there!

WIEP M&M Call-out!

You are cordially invited to a WIEP Social & Mentor Callout for all women engineers Tuesday, April 28 from 9-4 at the ARMS Nook. This event is a chance for you to find out more about the leadership opportunities available in the Women In Engineering Program. 

Even if you are not a member of WIEP, please stop by for doughnuts and coffee in the morning and other snacks and refreshments in the afternoon! If you are graduating, feel free to come and share your experiences with WIEP! Existing members on the Leadership Team will be there to answer any questions that you might have.

Movie and Munchies Event

If you are anything like us, this cold, snowy weather has probably put you in the mood to curl up indoors with some comfy clothes, good food, and a great movie. If this sounds appealing to you, then read on!

Next month, in lieu of a traditional monthly meeting or a dance (which is what we have done in past years), we will be hosting a brand-new event called "Movie & Munchies". This event is great because it is super fun and laid-back, but it can also count as either a monthly meeting or a social (to ensure that you meet the program attendance requirements).

Who: All M&M Pair and Group Participants
What: "Movie & Munchies" - we'll be watching a holiday movie and enjoying a hot chocolate bar and some delicious snacks!
When: Sunday, December 7 at 7:30pm
Where: First Street Towers West Conference Room
Why: To have fun, take a much-needed study break, and hang out with the other incredible ladies in the program!

Here are some other details to keep in mind:

-Comfy clothes are encouraged! This is a ladies-only event, so feel free to come in sweatpants or even your pajamas!
-You can also bring pillows, blankets, etc.
-Try to come with your Small Group if you are in one, if possible!
-WIEP will be providing the hot chocolate bar and some snacks, but participants are encouraged to bring food, as well! Feel free to pick up some chips or cookies from one of the markets on campus or to meet up with your pair or LT group ahead of time to make a dish! Additionally, to enhance our Multicultural Awareness, we also encourage you to bring a dish, snack, or dessert that is representative of your personal culture or family!

"Movie and Munchies" December Event with Pair!

It's hard to believe that we are nearing the end of first semester, but your LT are hard at work planning the December Event with the M&M Pair Program!

The topic of this event is "Movie and Munchies." Socialize, relax, and watch a movie during dead week with all of your fellow mentors and mentees!

Bring a snack to share as well and receive 25 points! A hot chocolate bar will be provided as well.

Date: Sunday, November 7th
Time: 7:30 pm
Location: First Street Towers (West Conference Room)

Mentoring Skills Workshop/October Social Night with the M&M Pair Program!
Tuesday, October 21

Join us for a workshop titled "Energize Yourself, Energize Others" featuring Katie Dufault, SATS Assistant Director. The workshop will run from 6-7 pm and will be held in FRNY G140.

Following the workshop, meet in the FRNY Atrium, where we will be decorating donuts and socializing!

Coffee and Conversation with a NASA engineer!

We have a new upcoming Coffee and Conversation Social Event with Valerie Wiesner from NASA!

Valerie Wiesner is a materials research engineer in the Ceramics Branch of the Materials and Structures Division at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH. Val earned her PhD at Purdue in MSE with a focus on structural ceramics in 2013.

This would be a great opportunity to learn information about NASA education & outreach programs (specifically internships, scholarships and fellowships) with undergrads and grad students.
